Book first, or movie?
Rather than start with the obligatory Greek chorus refrain of “Where does the time go?” I’ll dive right in, as I always do the first week of the month, and start a conversation.
Or, in this case, stir the shit pot. 🥄 💩 🍯
What is the order of operations for you: Book, then movie? Movie, then book? Or does it matter?
I took a super scientific poll on this topic a few years ago. Okay, it was a Facebook post, but holy bananas, I got close to 200 comments on that thing, and people get LIT UP on this topic.
The overwhelming majority — I’d say 80% say they read the book first. And they are adamant that this is the only way to do it.
I’m not much of a movie person. While I enjoy them, I prefer to read. I do enjoy the occasional Netflix binge, but honestly, my TV only gets turned on about once a month—usually when my other half comes over.
Also, I find it hard to keep up with so many movies and television series based on books now.
So, while I endeavor to read the book first, I’ll likely just take what I can get.
The only real exception I made was for The Perfect Couple, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s book. I read the book first, then my bestie Lisa and I watched the series in our signature “together, but apart” way. We each cozied up in our own living rooms one rainy weekend and binge-watched it from a distance for no other reason than we could.
Back to you: what’s your preference? Book first, or movie? Or does it matter?
